False Alarms In Lakewood, JFK Airport, Philadelphia’s Independence Mall
The NJ Transit bus station in Lakewood and the visitors center at Philadelphia’s Independence Mall were both closed briefly on Sunday afternoon.
As New Jersey and the nation are still on edge following the Boston Marathon bombing nearly a week ago, Lakewood Police with K9 dogs responded to the report of an unattended package at the bus terminal. The report was unfounded and the terminal reopened according to TheLakewoodScoop.com.
Terminal 4 concourse B was evacuated late Sunday afternoon at JFK Airport in New York when a suspicious package was put on a plane according to WABC TV. It turned out to be tape and a toothpaste in a bag.
In Philadelphia the Independence Mall Visitors Center was closed around noon for what they called an “emergency.”
National Park officials would not elaborate on the closure except to call it an “emergency.”
However, WPVI TV reports a man dressed in camouflage and his face painted was spotted walking around the Mall and escorted off the property in handcuffs.
The man’s car was searched as was each level of a nearby parking garage and the visitor center.
As he was being escorted away he told reporters he was an architect and was hiding in the building’s garage.
The center reopened around 1:30 p.m.
