The Ms. New Jersey Senior America title is back in Ocean County for the first time since 2009.

Sherri McGhie of Manchester is the daughter of 1995 winner Norma McGhie and the former director of the Miss Big Apple Pageant in New York, but she says this is her first title.

"I've been around pageants since the 80's, I used to run a pageant, but I've never really competed too much," McGhie said.  "But I've even coached a little bit, so I'm very familiar with what's required."

That included learning the trademark "pageant walk," which McGhie says she picked up on the internet, and performing onstage in Atlantic City.  McGhoe chose the song "Whe You're Good to Mama," from the musical "Chicago," and it's easy to see where she picked up her stage presence.

"I've always been interested in pageants and the theater, I do a little acting, like that," said Sherri's mother, Norma.  "And so, from an early age, she was introduced to the pageants."

As Ms. New Jersey Senior America, Sherri will travel throughout the state promoting the positive side of aging and performing in the New Jersey Cameo Club Showcases.  She'll compete in the national Ms. Senior America pageant in Atlantic City in October.
