Obama Pushes Gun Control In Colorado

President Barack Obama travels to Colorado today to step up his call for universal background checks for gun buyers and at least a vote in Congress on an assault weapons ban and limits on large-capacity ammunition magazines.

The trip comes a day after the National Rifle Association released a study that says at least one adult in every school should be armed with a gun and know how to use it.

Former Arkansas Republican Rep. Asa Hutchinson headed the study. It made eight recommendations that included online assessments that schools would make of their safety procedures. Hutchinson said the NRA dropped an earlier recommendation that retired police officers and other volunteers be armed to provide school safety. He said the idea was opposed by school superintendents.

CT lawmakers to debate strict gun laws

Connecticut lawmakers are expected to pass some of the strictest gun control laws in the country.

Debate is set to begin late this morning on the far-reaching legislation negotiated by Democratic and Republican legislative leaders.

It calls for background checks on all firearms sales, expanding the state’s assault weapons ban and a ban on selling or buying ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

Obama is planning a trip to Connecticut Monday to step up the pressure on a reluctant Congress to pass national gun control legislation.
