Normal Operations Resuming At Airport Tech Site

A vital technical center damaged by a fire is expected to fully reopen on Monday, though dozens of workers will be temporarily relocated.

It’s still unclear what caused the fire and explosions Friday at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, a major aviation research, development and test facility in Atlantic City. The cost of damage is being calculated.

The Press of Atlantic City newspaper  reports roughly 230 employees who work in the center’s main administrative building will be relocated to its auditorium and atrium while repairs continue. The fire caused smoke and water damage throughout the building.

Authorities say the fire started on the roof of a center building and spread inside, forcing 1,600 workers out of the complex. No injuries were reported.
