New Jersey Helps Job Seekers and Businesses [AUDIO]

Maybe some things are free. In every New Jersey county, businesses and residents can find a place devoted to navigating them to success. The services provided at the Business Resource Centers and One-Stop Career Centers come at no charge.

Once a fragmented system, the state’s One-Stop Career Centers place an array of employment and training services under one roof.

Job seekers can get an assessment of their skills and abilities, as well as a review of their job qualifications, experience and abilities. They can also benefit from an in-house network of volunteers who offer weekly classes in resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills and networking. Training is also available for eligible participants who are seeking skills in a market they are unfamiliar with.

“One-stop career centers are open to everyone; they do not have to be unemployed,” said Jane Brady, Director of Workforce Development in Middlesex County.

Working hand-in-hand, each One-Stop Career Center houses a Business Resource Center. The BRC staff works with employers to recruit the right workers for their open positions. Brady said the services provided can help businesses save time and money, as the BRC assists in pre-screening and interviews.

“In an employment service outside of us, you’re paying for that service. Here it’s all free,” Brady added.

Through the BRC, employers can also learn about any tax credit programs they may be eligible for.

With the two systems working together, the skills of job seekers are matched with what employers are seeking.

“Whether you need part-time, full-time, permanent, and temporary or project staff, One-Stop Career Centers offer immediate access to one of the largest pools of talent in the area,” said a promotional handout from Middlesex County.
