Nanny Charged with Child Endangerment and DWI
Toms River police arrested 50-year-old Susan Porfido-Gibson of Bayville Friday afternoon on multiple charges after she allegedly got drunk while babysitting a child in Toms River.
Investigators say officers were initially called to a home where Porfido-Gibson was working as a nanny contracted through the online service care.com. The child's mother told police she returned home to find Porfido-Gibson passed out drunk.
Porfido-Gibson had fled the home when police arrived, but another officer soon responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident nearby. Police then discovered that the driver was Porfido-Gibson.
She had crashed her car into a fire hydrant on Reynolds Street, dislodging it from the ground. Officers say there were 3 empty alcohol bottles in the car.
Porfido-Gibson is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, DWI, Possession of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle and other motor vehicle offenses. She was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in default of $50,000 bail.
