We can soon start eating more Jersey Fresh crustaceans from the Barnegat Bay. The State Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is reopening the southern part of the Sandy-damaged shellfish beds in the bay Friday morning.

The DEP says tissue sampling of shellfish from the Barnegat Inlet south to just north of Little Egg Harbor meet National Shellfish Sanitation Program safety standards. Two small beds in the bay near Waretown and Little Egg Harbor remain closed as well as shellfish beds in the Raritan Bay.
