Third-graders in Joseph C. Caruso School of Keansburg now operate their own business to raise money for civic causes. “Dollar Dog,” which the youngsters operate when they’re not cracking the books, accepts and re-sells donated items to help the Monmouth County SPCA and to buy bulletproof vests for K-9 dogs in the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department.

Girl Scouts of Troop 520 in North Dover Elementary, Toms River, conduct an ongoing service project to raise awareness throughout the Barnegat Bay Watershed of the need to conserve water, especially during drought-risky summer months. Their “Wonders of Water” project has taken them on an informational journey through the Ocean County Utilities Authority, Ocean County Health Department, and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
