Lifeless Body in Lakewood Triggers Multi-Agency Probe

The apparent discovery of  a lifeless elderly woman's body inside a home in Lakewood's original Leisure Village is under investigation this afternoon.

Crime scene tape envelops several units as investigators from Lakewood Police, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office go door-to-door seeking information that can help their probe.

Neighbors say that the unidentified woman's adult daughter called township police to the Chatham Court dwelling.

Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford says that the probe is in a very early stage. Investigators are trying to determine whether it was a natural death, or whether other circumstances were involved.

A car was hooked to a tow truck and driven away. There's been no indication as to whether it is directly involved in the investigation.
