A car accident on Route 37 and Bananier Drive takes out electricity to over 2,000 JCP&L customers.  A utility spokesperson says most of their customers had electricity restored before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.  However, about ten customers aren't expected to have power restored until around midnight.

The accident interrupted electricity along the Route 37 corridor mostly affecting customers in Berkeley and the south-eastern section of Toms River Townships. Scattered outages were also reported in South Toms River and Manchester. The JCP&L outage map had placed the estimated power restoration time at around 9 p.m.

Witnesses say a Cadillac struck a utility pole next to a Shell gas station and Wells Fargo bank branch at around 5 p.m., taking down power lines, igniting trees and causing small  explosions. The driver reportedly survived.
