Bonfacio Juan Huerta pleaded guilty to a second-degree charge of sexual assault, but will receive a lesser sentence in the third-degree range, according to information from the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

Huerta's lawyers have asked for a three-year sentence. The five-year term sought by prosecutors would be subject to New Jersey's No Early Release Act (NERA), requiring that 85 percent of the term be served.

Huerta would also be subject to lifetime parole supervision, ordered to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law, and refrain from contact with the victim under terms of Nicole's Law, authorities said.

Sentencing would commence following psychological evaluations.

Investigators said the victim was between ages 10 and 12 at the time of the incidents that stretched from June 2011 to May 2014.
