Lakewood Fireworks Spectacular Postponed

The looming threat of storms, possibly punctuated by lightning, before the night is through prompts a rescheduling of tonight's Independence Day fireworks extravaganza in Lakewood.

The new date is September 1, the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

Organizer Jeff Shapiro tells us that he's been monitoring forecasts and scanning Doppler images, and decided to act in the interest of safety.

The display fires off electronically from a barge that's placed in the middle of Lake Carasaljo alongside Route 9.
