Induction Night For The Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame
This August will be the 15th anniversary of the Toms River East Little League All-Stars winning the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
That summer was a magical one for the dozen young boys and maybe the best thing that’s ever happened in Toms River as the town was on the map for all the right reasons.
Those young boys and now 26 and 27 year old men and many of them will be at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood this Saturday as part of Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame night. After a brief hiatus the BlueClaws and Townsquare Media have combined to bring the Hall of Fame back and Saturday the former Little Leaguers will become the first team to be inducted as a group.
That group was made up of current Cincinnati Red Todd Frazier, Scott Fisher, Gabe Gardner, Joe Franceschini, Casey Gaynor, Eric Campesi, R.J. Johansen, Mike Belostock, Chris Cardone, Brad Frank, Tom Gannon and Chris Crawford. Mike Gaynor was the manager of those Boys of Summer with Ken Kondek and Joe Franceschini serving as coaches. Most of them are expected to be on hand for Saturday’s pre-game ceremonies.
The 2013 Hall of Fame class is quite a group of Jersey Shore legends, including former Red Bank Catholic star and current Colts running back Donald Brown and former Lacey, Princeton and NFL running back Keith Elias. From the basketball world comes Joe Scott, who was a standout at Toms River East and later Princeton before joining the coaching ranks where he’s now having success at the University of Denver.
Frankie Edgar was a champion wrestler at Toms River East and has made it big in MMA where he’s a former UFC World Champion. Rounding out the group of athletes is former softball standout Michele Carlson-Neveling. The newest group of Hall of Famers also includes legendary coaches Lou Vircillo, Warren Reid and Bo Scannapieco who are still adding to their extraordinary win totals and championships.
I will serve as Master of Ceremonies for Saturday’s event which will begin shortly after 6pm and before the BlueClaws 7pm game against West Virginia. Regular game tickets will allow you to witness the ceremony and there is also an option for you to join the Hall of Famers in the picnic area.

It should be a fun night and a stroll down memory lane. In the future there will be a permanent display at FirstEnergy Park listing the more than 200 members of the Hall of Fame which was started in 1991.
