The force seeks accreditation by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), signfying top-of-the-line performance in administration, personnel, operations, investigations and handling of arrestees and detainees.

On October 5, you can deliver your opinion by phone, 732-262-1107, between 9 and 11 AM. You can also e-mail them, employment@brickpd.com.

Written comments can be sent to Accreditation Program Manager Harry Delgado, hdelgado@njsacop.org, or via overland mail to the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, 751 Route 73 North, Suite 12, Marlton NJ 08053.

Phone comments should be no more than five minutes in length and must address the department's ability to meet NJSACOP standards. Copies of the criteria can be seen at Brick Township Police Headquarters, 401 Chambers Bridge Road, in the municipal complex. Speak to Lieutenant Vincent Pacitti, 732-262-1154.

The force must meet 100 standards to be validated for a three-year term, during which it must submit annual reports that verify ongoing compliance. On October 4, the day before comments, a NJSACOP assessment team will examine its policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services.

"Verification...that the Brick Township Police Department meets the commission's 'best practice' standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve and maintain accreditation," said Chief Nils Bergquist, "a highly-prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence."
