In the past week, I've gotten what has to be over a dozen phone calls from numbers that I don't recognize ranging from Florida to Washington state, all with the same voicemail following my hitting "Decline".

Here's the audio from one of the voicemails that I just received:

There are a few things that stood out to me as odd:

First of all, the calls have come from a wide variety of area codes; 206 (Seattle), 614 (Ohio), 713 (Texas), and 954 (Florida) to name just a few. If these were legit calls coming from a specific business, why so many phone numbers spread across the country?

The "in your area" part also sets off my B.S. radar. If there really was a special offer in our area, you'd think that would be identified. I'd be less suspicious if it said "in New Jersey".

But the bit at the end is what really caught my attention as unusual, "thanks for your time, and be healthy and blessed".

I don't have anything against those wishing blessings on others, spirituality is a very personal choice, but that's just not something that you hear in a professional setting.

These calls really came out of nowhere, and I've been inundated. I'm getting at least 3 a day.

Put it all together, and it just doesn't pass the smell test.

Thankfully, we live in a day and age where we can usually see the phone number that's calling us, and many of us wisely just don't answer calls from unfamiliar or blocked numbers.

But that doesn't mean that there aren't people falling for this. That's what scammers bet on, that they'll make thousands of calls and catch a few people who will fall for it.
