2013 is the 100th anniversary of Seaside Heights and the borough had planned to hold a huge celebration at the Beachcomber in late September.

Then came the fire that destroyed a large part of the south end of the borough’s boardwalk and neighboring Seaside Park, including the top floor of the Beachcomber which had just been completely renovated following Superstorm Sandy.

So the centennial celebration had to be put on hold and now three months later they will finally get to throw a better-late-than-never birthday party.  The event will take place next Thursday (December 19th) at Hemmingway’s Café on the boulevard from 6-10pm and will feature food, a one-hour open bar, wine & spirits tasting and live entertainment with DJ Dave Sodano and the Waterfront Duo.  Tickets are just $25 and on sale at Borough Hall on Sherman Avenue and the boulevard.  For more information you can call (732) 793-9100.

Today is the final day of voting in the Stanley Safer Schools contest with Toms River High School East among the nearly 1,000 schools competing for a $200,000 security equipment grant.  You can vote online at stanleysaferschools.com or text “Toms River H.S. East” to 99222 until 11:59 tonight.

Our Shore Sports Network’s 2013 All Shore Football teams are out today and can be found at shoresportsnetwork.com.   The teams were selected by a committee that included your truly, Scott Stump, Bob Badders, Ed Sarluca and Matt Harmon from our Shore Sports Network in consultation with local coaches.

It’s a difficult and challenging process because with 43 schools to choose from there are hundreds of qualified players to earn one of the 90 spots on first, second and third team.   Our players of the year were running back Charlie Volker of Rumson and linebacker Chris Noesges of Manalapan.  John Wagner, who led Point Beach to their first-ever state sectional title, is our Coach of the Year and we’ve also honored assistant coaches Chip LaBarca of Brick and Jerry Schulte of Rumson.
