Fisherman rescued 70 miles off Barnegat Light

A fisherman injured some 70 miles out at sea off Barnegat Light is whisked to hospitalization by air.

The U.S. Coast Guard says that the 49-year-old aboard the 77-foot Determination, based in Rhode Island, sustained a right-hand injury.

Watchstanders at the USCG Delaware Bay station in Philadelphia received word at about 9:30 AM and summoned a helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City.

They did not identify the fisherman but said that he was flown to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City.
