Don't panic if you see first responders and a heavy police presence at the Ocean County Mall Sunday morning. A simulated drill will be taking place from 7 to 10 a.m. to test and evaluate local agency responses, according to Toms River police.

Real life scenarios will be conducted with people acting as criminals and victims. Responding agencies, including the Township's Office Of Emergency Management, EMS Division, Police Department, Toms River Fire Departments and the Simons Ocean County Mall will be critiqued on their individual activities and responses to the emergency.

“It is important to periodically conduct these exercises on a large scale so that the different township agencies can fine tune their skills while working in a large group emergency situation,” said Ralph J. Stocco, Toms River Police Department Community Affairs Officer.

“The results of this operation will be evaluated and any necessary changes to emergency response protocol will be put into place in the future to better protect our residents and first responders,” said Stocco.
