Police are investigating why 83-year-old Michael Fresak failed to see the disabled car in the right lane shortly after 4 p.m., according to The Patch. Police also said Fresak was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious internal injuries. He eventually became unconscious and stopped breathing while being transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The ambulance was diverted to Ocean Medical Center in Brick where Fresak succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the disabled car, 29-year-old Ashley Bell of Brick, and her passenger, 23-year-old Meghann Ray of Jackson, both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River.
