My friend called with an interesting dilemma.  She was at the hair salon after a hard day at the office.  Her head hurt and she just wanted to relax but the hair stylist was being more talkative than usual.  Not wanting to be rude, my pal engaged in conversation but secretly wished she had been able to enjoy an hour's worth of pampering in silence.

I've had a similar situation in the past with a stylist I'll call "Chatty Cathy."  Not only was she loud and talkative, but she complained about all of her and the world's problems.  I brought me down.  She no longer cuts my hair.

So here's a question for those of you who work in the beauty industry:  if a client is wanting some quiet time, what's the best way for her to ask for it?  Would you be offended?

And for those of you who have been annoyed by talkative or negative people at the hair or nail salon, how did you deal with it?    Please share in the Comments section.
