Crowds Welcome A First In Ocean County

Today is somewhat historic although not for the reason many of you would expect as Ocean County’s first cannabis dispensary opened its doors with a large crowd waiting to get inside .  The Social Leaf is located on Route 166 in South Toms River and next door to Dicky’s Dogs and Sundae’s Ice Cream.  As one who drives by the location twice each day I have watched the progress of the building which at one time housed two different businesses.

According to published reports it is the 46^th cannabis dispensary in the state and certainly will be welcomed by those who use these products as a medical alternative.  Medical marijuana patients currently have to travel outside of Ocean County and will now have a much shorter drive to get what they need.  Of course there are even more customers who will take advantage of being able to purchase products for recreational purposes and The Social Leaf website says their staff will be happy to have an active role in educating and supplying great products to the community.

My guess is there are some who are vehemently opposed to the sale of recreational cannabis and feel it’s another step towards the self-destruction of our country.  I am not among them…this is a legit business that will have to follow strict rules and guidelines and it’s not like you are going to drive by there and see a bunch of people smoking in the parking lot.  Legalized marijuana for those 21 and older was approved by New Jersey voters three years ago.

The five partners are all associated with businesses in Toms River and are expected to employ as many as 50 people in the dispensary which will be open 7 days a week from 8am-10pm and also offer vapes and pre-rolled cannabis.
