The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on events well in the future as one of Ocean County's most popular summer events has been canceled.

The Point Pleasant Chamber of Commerce just announced that the borough's Summerfest has been canceled for 2020.

In an announcement to the Chamber's website, officials said that they remain hopeful that the event may be able to be rescheduled at some point, but the current state of affairs with the coronavirus pandemic has forced them to make the difficult decision about the cancellation of the borough's most popular annual event that was scheduled for June 5th and 6th, 2020.

The Star News Group reported that this year's event would have been its 30th anniversary, with 2020 now marking the first cancellation in the history of Summerfest.
