Conviction Overturned in Stafford Girlfriend Shooting Case
A Stafford man convicted of shooting his live-in girlfriend in their home gets a new trial. According to the Asbury Park Press Appeallate Judges reveresed the 2010 conviction that sent 63-year-old John Carnesi to prison for 18 years. The judges ruled that Carnesi was deprived of the right to prsent a defense and confront witnesses because the trial judge erroneously excluded evidence of the victim's history of mental illness and suicide attempts. Carnesi's conviction on weapons possession was upheld.
