Family members discovered 91-year-old Ruth Jacobs on the kitchen floor unresponsive around 4 p.m and 96-year-old Arnold Jacobs lying on the garage floor, semi-conscious, according to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office. Relatives entered the home using a keypad entry system after not hearing from the couple for some time.

Mrs. Jacobs was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m. by the Ocean County Medical Examiners Office who responded to the scene along with Lacey police, local EMS, the Prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit and the County Sheriff's Department CIU.

Mr. Jacobs was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, where he was in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators were unable to talk to him due to his condition, according to Della Fave. The investigation is ongoing.
