Jared Chamiak, 36, of Jackson, suffered severe leg and lower-extremity injuries when he was catapulted from his motorcycle on Indian Hill Road (Roue 571), according to police. He was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Investigators determined that shortly before 4:40 PM, Chamiak was eastbound on 571 astride a 2009 Buell motorcycle. Robert Painter, 82, of Toms River, was westbound on the county road, behind the wheel of a 2004 Dodge Minivan.

Police retracing the incident reported that Painter entered the left-turn lane for Oak Ridge Parkway and proceeded into the turn, into the motorcyclist's path. Chamiak swerved left to avoid a collision but clipped the minivan's right rear section, police said.

Painter sustained minor injuries and declined on-site medical aid, police said.
