Car Crash Helps Crack Case in Lakewood Robberies
Three men are facing charges in connection to several robberies in Lakewood over the past few months.
The Lakewood Scoop reports Jasheir Powell, 19, Quadirah Booker, 22, and Toraya Evans, 20, all of Lakewood, were arrested yesterday following an investigation that began on July 19, 2015.
That's when a woman reported that a group of men had pepper-sprayed her while she was walking on Linden Avenue, then stolen her wallet, cell phone, camera, and keys before fleeing the scene in a red sedan. About 2 hours later, officers responded to a car crash involving a vehicle matching that description and determined it was the same car. The occupants had left the scene of the crash on foot, but transactions made using the stolen credit cards eventually led to the arrests of Powell, Booker, and Evans. All three men are charged with Robbery, while Powell is also charged with Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Credit Card Theft, and Fraudulent Use of a Stolen Credit Card.
Police also believe the men were responsible for two other incidents on April 23, 2015. They're charged with Attempted Robbery and Theft in those cases.
