Barnegat Bay Partnership takes the lead in clearing a Green Acres preserved wooded area in Toms River as part of Clean Ocean Action's Beach Sweeps this weekend. Barnegat Bay Partnership is asking volunteers to assist them with removing litter from the 40 acre Browns Woods Preserve that has a creek running through it.

"The Long Swamp Creek runs through the property beginning up around Ocean County Mall and it does empty out into the Toms River," said BBP Program Assistant Mary Judge.

She explained that it's important to address litter in woodland areas because they're connected to our waterways.

"As a community you always have to watch out for the amount of trash that's left that makes it's way to our waterways. So, even though sometimes we have no control over this trash, it's generating from places far away from where it ends up. It's very important to continue to pick it up and address the problem before the garbage reaches the waterways and eventually it will end up in the Barnegat Bay." said Judge.

COA's Beach Sweeps takes place rain or shine on Saturday October 25. Judge said they'll be meeting at the partnership's offices at 117 Haines Road at 8:30 a.m. They encourage volunteers to wear good shoes, dress for the weather and to bring gloves and a bag lunch.
