Andrew Grace, 40, of Atco, was catapulted from the Jeep Wrangler he was driving and flown to AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City after the collision at about 5:34 AM, according to Barnegat police.
John Patterson II, 56, of Barnegat Light, was motored to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune. Dorothy Collins, 71, of Manahawkin, was treated at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford. John Garvey of West Chester, Pennsylvania managed to avoid injury, police said.
Grace was eastbound and the others were westbound, police said. Grace's Jeep left its lane and hit Collins's Ford Taurus, caromed into Garvey's Jeep Grand Cherokee and ricocheted into Patterson's Audi A6 before going wheels-up on the pavement.
The crash left westbound traffic tied up for about five hours.  Barnegat police got help from the township's volunteer firefighters, Stafford Police and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
