Avoid Route 9 in Berkeley Township

An overnight accident is forcing a partial closure of Route 9 through Berkeley Township, according to police.

Only northbound Route 9 is open between Chain Boulevard and Sylvan Lakes Drive while the southbound side is being detoured after a car slammed into a utility pole on Pelican Drive.

JCP&L crews are on the scene making repairs. The utility reported scattered power outages from the accident.

Two people injured were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, according to the Lacey Patch.
