Arts & Community Center Warms Up The Stage In January'February at OCC

This winter, there’s entertainment in store for everyone at Ocean County College’s Arts & Community Center located on the OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  All performances take place in the main theatre.

MIDWEEK JAZZ: Celebrating Benny!  On the exact 75th anniversary of Benny Goodman’s landmark Carnegie Hall concert, clarinetists Dan Levinson, Will Anderson, and Pete Anderson present a three-reed celebration of Goodman’s group swing music.  Wednesday, January 16 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets: $18 Adult, $15 Senior.

 

YOUNG PEOPLE’S PRODUCTION: Wizard of Oz (Yates Musical Theatre) – A vibrant adaptation of the treasured classic, The Wizard of Oz.  Experience the perils along with Dorothy and her wonderful band of comrades.  It’s a jubilant, song-filled journey in which we learn the meaning of friendship, the value of teamwork, and finally come to understand that “There’s no place like home.”  Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m.  Tickets: $12 all seats.

 

SELECT - A - SERIES: Kathy Kosins - To the Ladies of Cool – June Christy, Chris Connor, Anita O’Day, and Julie London are familiar names to jazz fans.  Singer Kathy Kosins celebrates these ladies with her own vocal sensitivities.  Reviewers recognize Kosins’ delivery and sense of timing that adeptly captures her salute “To the Ladies of Cool.”  Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets: $25 Adult, $20 Senior, $15* Series, $10 Student.

 

PREMIER PERFORMANCES: Peking Acrobats – Since their Western debut in 1986, the Peking Acrobats have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobats.  They defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control.  They push the envelope of human possibility with astonishing juggling dexterity and incredible balancing feats.  Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets: $22 Adult, $20 Senior, $10 Student.

 

MIDWEEK JAZZ: Geoff Gallante Trio – Gallante has played MidWeek Jazz several times to standing ovations.  For this date, he will introduce some new material and possibly relieve the pianist to show how well-rounded his musical skills actually are!  Wednesday, February 6 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets: $18 Adult, $15 Senior.

 

ASPIRING ARTISTS: Keith Marks - An Infectiously Funky Pied Piper of Jazz Flute – As flutist extraordinaire and leader of one of the hottest musical ensembles on the scene today, Marks covers the whole spectrum of music from rhythm & blues to jazz, funk to Caribbean, and Calypso to African.  Marks once stated, “My flute is connected to my central nervous system.”  Sunday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets (including a “Meet the Artist Reception”): $15 Adult, $12 Senior, $10 Student.
