Arrest in Toms River Fatal Hit and Run
Authorities have arrested an Island Heights man in connection with a hit and run accident in Toms River earlier this month that killed a pedestrian.
51-year-old Mark Rothlein was arrested Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of the March 6 crash on Route 37, near Fischer Boulevard, that killed 27-year-old Jeffrey Michel of Colts Neck. He was being held on $100,000 bail.
Authorities believe Rothlein was behind the wheel of his wife's blue Jeep Wrangler at the time of the crash. Earlier this week, police released a description of the vehicle, based on a piece of the jeep found at the scene, which Toms River police said let to Rothlein's arrest.
Michel was a nursing student at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.
