Within the past few days my hairdresser, dentist, and a few friends have asked what I'm going to do for Thanksgiving.  I told them I'll be with my sister and her family, as I've done for many years.  One friend surprised me by saying he's not going anywhere.  He's just staying home with his wife and together they will enjoy a meal.  That's it.  No travel headaches.  No shopping for 12 people.  No decorating the house.  He's looking forward to a quiet day with a nice meal.  Period.

While at first I felt a bit sorry for him, I soon realized this is his choice and if he's happy with that holiday plan, then I'm happy for him.  In fact, I'm thinking his choice to spend the day the way he wants is something to be admired!  I know many people who dread Thanksgiving for a variety of reasons:  dysfunctional family drama, alcohol-induced arguments, traffic jams, etc.

Have you ever decided to spend the holiday alone by choice?  If so, how was it?  Did you take yourself on a trip?  Go to a restaurant alone?  Go to the movies?
