The non-profit is celebrating the 22nd Anniversary of the signing of the sweeping federal legislation aimed at providing better access for people with disabilities.

ADAOCAN Chair Ruth Stack says while the Federal Government recognizes the Act every five years, she believes it's important for her organization to recognize the anniversary every year. She says even though Ocean County and the entire country has made great strides in providing access, she says "there's so much more that needs to be done; Updating signage and making sure that van accessible parking is adequate."

Stack says they've invited a number of town officials to the event. "It's important to reach out to those in our community to make them realize the importance of the signing of the ADA."

Stack says they've invited former Toms River Mayor Paul Wnek, who established the first Mayor's ADA Advisory Committee in Ocean County, to be the keynote speaker. Mary Bencivenga of the Disabled American Veterans will also be speaking.

The Brunch takes place at the American Legion George P. Vanderveer Post 129 at 2025 Church Road in Toms River. She says the event is free but there's a Friday registration deadline. To Register call 732-505-0151 or e-mail dormcd@aol.com. ADOCAN website is adaocan.org
