A Winning Weekend

Is it me or has 7 or 8 inches of snow disappeared in what seems like a record time?

It was just four days ago that we got hit with our biggest snowfall of the winter but sunshine and temperatures in the 50s yesterday has melted much of it in certain areas.  It looks like smooth sailing ahead for the next 10 days or so as our thoughts can turn to spring and maybe we can finally leave winter in our rear view mirror.

There is not too much Atlantic City can count on these days but one exception is that high school wrestling fans will flock to Boardwalk Hall for the NJSIAA Individual Championships.  Some 40,000 plus turned out this weekend and Sunday’s finals produced the sixth state champion for the shore’s premier program Brick Memorial. 

The Mustangs sent a Shore Conference record four wrestlers into Sunday’s finals with only 145 pound senior Alec Donovan coming out on top thanks to a 1-0 victory over Stephan Glasgow of Bound Brook.  Donovan’s name will take its place on the Stangs Wall of Fame alongside state champs Bob Martin, Nick Angen, Steve Bruscino, Steve Santos and Mike Morales.  He is also the first champion under second-year head coach Mike Denver.  Not to be overlooked is the fabulous weekend by the other three Memorial grapplers who finished second in the state: senior Cliff Ruggiero and sophomores Gianni Ghione and Nick Rivera.

Hit the movies this weekend and saw The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel which is the sequel to 2012’s surprise hit The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and not quite as good as the original.  However the cast is tremendous and it’s a feel-good movie that’s worth the price of admission, especially if you in the afternoon when it’s cheaper.

This weekend also saw my wife Jane and I get through the final episodes of Breaking Bad as we binged-watched all five seasons and 62 episodes on Netflix in less than three weeks.  That Walter White was one interesting dude.
