Our sister station 105.7 The Hawk is for the 19th time dedicating a week to helping Ocean of Love, an Ocean County-based organization that assists children and their families dealing with childhood cancer.

You are likely familiar with this true grass-roots organization which provides help in many ways from financial to emotional support and hundreds of families have benefited in some capacity over the years.

Andy Chase (Townsquare Media NJ)

Each October the radio station basically goes all-in to raise money for Ocean of Love and for the tenth time afternoon personality Andy Chase is living on top of a billboard until he reaches the goal of raising $105,700.

Andy went up Monday in the Target/Lowe’s parking lot on Hooper Avenue in Toms River around dinnertime and the hope is he comes down Friday around the same time, that is if he meets the goal which they have every October.

I stopped over yesterday and as always the mood and vibe was positive even though there’s a long way to go in their fundraising efforts. It is truly inspiring to watch people come from all over to make a personal donation, some basically bringing jars filled with change which they have been saving up.

This year’s effort got a boost early with a $15,000 donation from the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation.  He of course is the Stafford Township native and Southern Regional High School graduate who has become one of the top NASCAR drivers in the country.

There are several ways in which you can donate and help get Andy down on Friday.  You can stop by in person and get a feel for what’s going on, call 732-505-1057 to make a pledge or you can donate online at OceanOfLove.org.  Andy is the focal point of this great effort (which he should be) but there are many other great volunteers who team up to make this such a great annual event.

A special shout out goes to Ted Maturo, our Director of Marketing and Promotions who helped create the event two decades ago and has spearheaded the effort to raise more than $1.7 million for Ocean of Love.

We all know cancer is evil but childhood cancer is just too much to handle.  Ocean of Love can’t cure the disease but they can ease some of the pains associated with it.  Give whatever you can.
