I’m not going to be around on Saturday but if I was I would likely stop in to Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant and Gateway Toyota, both on Route 37 in Toms River to support two of my favorite local charities.

Margarita’s is running a fundraiser from 11am to closing for the benefit of “A Need We Feed” an Ocean County non-profit that prepares and delivers hundreds of meals for those in need on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter along with a Summer BBQ.

On Saturday Margarita’s will donate 20% of all that days proceeds to the organization and will also be holding drawings throughout the day to area restaurants like Chef Mike’s ABG, Bum Rogers, Aqua Blu, Mantoloking Alehouse, Applebee’s, Ohana Grill, Waypoint 622 and even Stop & Shop.  Anyone who comes in for lunch, dinner or a snack will get one free entry into the drawings. For more you can visit aneedwefeed.com.

You can also find out how to volunteer to help with their next feeding which is coming up fast…that being Easter in which they also supply hundreds of fun-filled Easter baskets.

Ironically not far away Gateway Toyota (yes the car dealership) will be the site of another food event on Saturday, a Chili Cook-Off to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County. They are still looking for chili chefs and unlike many of these competitions you will prepare your batch of chili before and bring it with you.

For registration information contact BBBSOC at (732) 505-3400.  For just $10 the public is invited to taste the various chili efforts from 11am to 2:30pm and also cast votes for their favorites.  I guess what you could do is stop by Gateway Toyota and have some chili as an appetizer to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County and then head over to Margarita’s to finish your meal and help A Need We Feed.

That’s what I call a doubleheader.

A special shout-out to both Margarita’s and Gateway Toyota for hosting both events and knowing that good businesses serve the community as well.  Knowing management from both I am not surprised they are involved in these charitable efforts.
