Yankees, Mets & Phillies at the MLB All-Star Break

The baseball season has reached the All-Star break and the first half was filled with mixed results for the local teams:

For the first time since 2007 the METS lead the National League East at the break despite a staggering number of injuries and the fact many of their top players are underperforming.  The Mets are 3 ½ games in front of the second-place PHILLIES who floundered for most of the first half but have won 7 of 10 in July to reach the .500 mark.  Beginning Friday the Phills will play 12 of their next 14 games at Citizens Bank Park.

The YANKEES have had a mostly disappointing season to this point but it did appear they were headed into the All-Star break off a sweep of the hated Astros.  However Houston rallied for six runs in the bottom of the 9^th Sunday to hand the Yanks another crushing loss and they are eight games behind Al East-leading Boston.  The two rivals play 8 of their next 10 games against one another after the break and that could have a major bearing on where this season will go for the guys in pinstripes.

Chances are if you are over the age of 40 you remember quite well when the All-Star Game was something truly special which is why it was dubbed the “Midsummer Classic.”  That is no longer the case and why so many players would rather have a few days off to spend with their family rather than take part in the game and festivities.  Tonight’s Home Run Derby is likely more interesting to fans than the game itself on Tuesday night at Coors Field in Colorado which will likely produce a “Rocky Mountain Low” when it comes to TV ratings.

My suggestion is this is a good week to binge-watch the first season of “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV as the second season drops on July 23^rd and you’ll want to be ready for it.
