Wow! It’s The Weirdest Food in New Jersey! Among The Strangest in America

This is a "strange" article, not in a bad way but in an intriguing way. We are talking about the "weirdest" foods in America including right here in New Jersey. I will say that "weirdest" may be the wrong term, maybe "different" is better because in various parts of the nation people like different kinds of foods.

In a recent Far and Wide article, they said "America is a big place — about as big as Europe — so why wouldn't certain states and regions have their own foods? Some foods followed ancestors from other countries. Some evolved out of necessity. Others cannot be explained as anything more than "weird."

One thing my wife and I always say is that we have no interest in "weird meats". We do not like trying strange meats, so if you have a "different" recipe, just make sure it doesn't contain weird meat. I don't want to eat scorpions, kangaroos, raccoons, frogs, sloths, etc. you get what I mean. So for me, that's "weird" food.

As far as here in New Jersey, according to Far and Wide, here in the Garden State, our "weirdest" food is the Jersey Style Sloppy Joe. "A Sloppy Joe is a big mess of a sandwich with a filling of ground beef and brown sugar. But not in New Jersey. The Jersey Sloppy Joe isn't messy, but it is big. This triple-decker sandwich uses corned beef between one layer, roasted turkey on another and then pastrami on the final layer. Toppings of Thousand Island or Russian dressing, Swiss cheese and coleslaw complete the whopper of a hand-held sandwich."
