TRENTON (AP) -- The state's acting education commissioner is giving school board members until January 27th to get fingerprinted as part of a new background check requirement. The move comes in response to a clunky process of getting board members to comply with a new law that required background checks by 2011's end. Ocean Gate Board of Education President Juan Alicia was asked to step down because of this regulation, the only Ocean County school board member on the state's list.

FREEHOLD - A convicted felon from Jersey City heads to prison for ten years for a high speed chase and crash that led to the injury of children. Reports say, Troy Clarke was sentenced friday in Monmouth County Superior Court after confessing to aggravated assault, weapons possession and obstruction charges. Clark and his associates were fleeing from police in 2010 on Route 9 when it crashed into a vehicle occupied by a family of five on Elton-Adelphia Road. Co-defendant Kevin Burke of jersey city was sentenced to 18 months probation. Two other co-defendants also pled guilty.

HOWELL - Some Freehold Regional High School students will get the chance to experience living history. Selma-to-Montgomery freedom marcher Don Olivaria will be addressing Howell High School students in Farmingdale, this Tuesday. The march Olivaria participated in with Dr. Martin Luther King, led to the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
