This. Is. Terrifying.

For all the things that we can do to be safer on the roads, there are always going to be things that are totally out of our control.

Like, say, a runaway truck tire zipping down the highway like a Benny trying beat a drawbridge.

But, like some Shore visitors, it doesn't stay in its lane for long, hops the concrete median, and slams head-on into a Jeep on the other side of the road.

Hold your breath and watch:

NJ.com reports that the incident happened on Route 440 in Edison on Wednesday afternoon.

Miraculously, there weren't any serious injuries, with the report quoting the driver of the Jeep that was hit, an off-duty Piscataway cop, as saying that he, "...just had some soreness from the impact and the airbags going off, but no major injuries."

Police are still trying to track down where the runaway tire came from and are asking for the public's help. If you happened to see the incident on Wednesday, you can give the State Police a call at 609-882-2000.
