Larry Ragonese, a spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection,
identified the missing swimmer as 25-year-old Nicolas Guilhot of Lyon, France, according to reports by the Asbury Park Press and NJ.com.

Guilhot went missing shortly before Noon Friday while swimming with friends in an unauthorized section of beach. It apparently was his first time swimming in the ocean.

A friend tried to rescue Guilhot, but he slipped under the 2-and-3 foot waves. The Coast Guard searched for him for six hours Friday.

A fisherman spotted a body floating in the water Saturday about a quarter mile from where Guilhot was first reported missing.
