Two shore area hospitals get the green light to perform angioplasties today. According to NJ.com, Community Medical Center in Toms River and Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank are two of 11 hospitals in New Jersey that will be allowed to perform the elective artery-clearing procedure without having a license to perform heart surgery.

The hospitals were given the go ahead Thursday following a vote by the State Healthcare Administration Board. However, 18 hospitals in the state with licenses to perform cardiac surgery said the policy jeopardizes their fiscal health.

The other hospitals also allowed to perform angioplasties are Bayonne Medical Center, Clara Maass Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center, JFK Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Somerset, Trinitas Regonal Medical Center, and Virtua-West Jersey.
