Two cars hit two buildings in downtown Toms River
Near-simultaneous crashes in downtown Toms River today leave several people shaken, possibly injured, and two cars and two buildings damaged.
The midafternoon crash on Water Street, near Horner, erupted on either side of the four-lane thoroughfare. Bystanders said they were stunned by the sound of crunching metal and shattering glass.
The crashes drew emergency medical teams as well as police. Sketchy reports indicated the possibility of injuries. Police were checking reports that one of the vehicles contained an infant.
Police did not have immediate information on the number of passengers and drivers involved, or circumstances leading to the collisions. The intersection contains a traffic signal.
Building inspectors were also summoned to evaluate the damage to each structure.
