Central Jersey Group III - Preview

(1) Manasquan 81, (16) Steinert 16 - Watch

Senior Matt Solomon led a wide-ranging scoring effort for Manasquan as the Warriors (22-5) pummeled the Spartans (2-21) to reach the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday against No. 8 Red Bank.

Junior Quinn Peters scored 10 points, junior Jack Dettlinger added nine and senior Cole Kozlowski poured in eight, with all 27 of the points between those three coming off the bench.

Sophomore Alex Konov also scored eight points for Manasquan.

(7) Jackson Liberty 43, (10) Hopewell Valley 41 - Watch

Senior Dahkareo Pritchett banked in a 23-foot three-pointer with 16 seconds left to give Jackson Liberty the lead and the Lions (16-10) clipped the Bulldogs (12-14) to pick up their first ever NJSIAA Tournament win, as well as a single-season-school-record 16th win.

Jackson Liberty trailed, 41-39, coming out of a timeout with 25 seconds left and Pritchett pulled up from well beyond the arc for a three that gave the Lions a 42-41 lead. Pritchett then hit the first of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to seal the win.

Senior Phanique Dupree scored 16 points to lead Jackson Liberty and Pritchett finished with nine for the Lions, who will travel to play No. 2 Robbinsville on Thursday.

(6) Hamilton West 63, (11) Brick 46

Junior Alex Jenkoski scored a game-high 14 points but the Green Dragons (10-16) could not keep pace with the Hornets (14-9) in the round-one loss on the road.

Senior Jack Dougard pitched in 12 points and senior Rob Giovine added 10 for Brick, while Jeremy Ellis (12 rebounds) and Arterio Williams each scored 14 points to lead Hamilton West, which will now travel to Brick to play No. 3 Brick Memorial in the sectional quarterfinals on Thursday.

(4) Lawrence 42, (13) Matawan 38

(3) Brick Memorial 55, (14) Colts Neck 38 - Watch

Senior Luke Braaten and junior Josh Michigan each scored 18 points and the Mustangs (19-6) topped the Cougars (10-13) to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against No. 6 Hamilton West.

Braaten also pulled down 18 rebounds for Brick Memorial, which stretched a five-point halftime lead to 11 by the end of the third and did not let Colts Neck close the gap in the fourth.

Junior Tyler Spencer scored 12 points to lead Colts Neck, which will bid farewell to coach Lou Piccola after the only head varsity boys basketball coach in the school's 23-year history coached his final game on Tuesday.

(8) Red Bank 54, (9) Middletown North 47 - Watch

Junior Nick Valentino scored a team-high 18 points, including a big jumper with two minutes left to go, as the Bucs (15-10) held off the Lions (10-12) to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday at top-seeded Manasquan.

Middletown North mounted an 11-3 run to pull within 46-45 with under three minutes to go and after a timeout with 2:31, Red Bank got the ball to Valentino, who created space inside the arc at the top of the key and hit the shot for a 48-45 lead.

The Bucs got a stop on the other end and senior Brian Tobin found junior Collin Teter for a layup to make it a five-point game and begin the march to the free-throw line that put the game on ice.

Tobin and Teter each finished with 13 points and sophomore Braydon Kirkpatrick provided nine points off the bench -- all of them in the second half.

Senior Matt Kenny scored a game-high 20 points to lead Middletown North, which welcomed senior Tommy Giannone (six points) back to the starting lineup for the first time following an 11-game absence. Senior Lucas Cerbo also chipped in 11 points in the loss.

(2) Robbinsville 62, (15) Wall 23 - Watch

Senior Brian Herbert scored a game-high 27 points to outscore Wall and help the Ravens (18-7) reach the sectional quarterfinals against No. 7 Jackson Liberty with a win over the Crimson Knights (2-21).

 

Central Jersey Group I - Preview

(8) Point Beach 57, (9) Highland Park 55 - Watch

Junior Kevin Burns scored 18 points and found senior Kyle Simpson for the go-ahead layup with 1:01 left as the Garnet Gulls (11-11) battled past the Owls (7-18) and into the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against top-seeded Burlington City.

Simpson's layup gave Point Beach a 55-54 lead and both senior Anthony Longo and Burns hit one of two free throws to maintain the lead. Highland Park got a look at a potential game-winning three-pointer on the final possession, but Mike Brzozowski's shot missed off the back rim.

Senior Andrew Laumbach also pitched in 17 points and 13 rebounds for Point Beach.

(2) Keyport 102, (15) Somerset Tech 29 - Watch

Senior D.J. Thomson led four Keyport players in double-figures with 31 points as the Red Raiders (17-6) eclipsed the century mark in a rout over Somerset Tech (4-22).

Senior George Mitchell added 17 points, freshman Nahsirr Hart poured in 15 and junior Max Judson contributed 14 for Keyport, which will host No. 10 Manville in Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.

(5) Florence 51, (12) Asbury Park 47

Junior Davon Foster scored 16 points and the Blue Bishops (4-12) hung around throughout the 32 minutes, but the Flashes (14-10) dodged the upset bid to advance to the sectional quarterfinals Thursday against No. 4 Perth Amboy Tech.

Junior Jai'Sun Brown added 11 points for Asbury Park, while Rasheem Harris scored a game-high 25 points to lead Florence.

(3) New Egypt 56, (14) Henry Hudson 36

Adam Harris poured in 26 points and the Warriors (15-10) pulled away for a first-round win over the Admirals (4-18).

Junior Jax Ross led Henry Hudson with 13 points, while Devin Kimmick contributed 16 for New Egypt, which will host No. 6 Shore in Thursday's sectional quarterfinals.

(6) Shore 74, (11) South Amboy 33 - Watch

Junior Brett Sweeney led a balanced effort with 14 points and the Blue Devils (13-13) rolled over the Governors (7-16) and into the sectional quarterfinals Thursday at No. 3 New Egypt.

Junior Richie Studer and sophomore Joey Santi each added 11 points for Shore, which won its first NJSIAA Tournament game since winning the Central Group I title in 2015.

 

South Jersey Group III - Preview

(1) Moorestown 50, (16) Pinelands 18 - Watch

Rece Englehart scored 14 points and the Quakers (22-5) held the Wildcats (8-12) to two points in the first half on the way to a first-round win.

Senior Aiden Skeie scored nine points to lead Pinelands, which still trailed only 4-2 after one quarter before conceding a 15-0 run over the duration of the second quarter.

Moorestown will host No. 8 Ocean City in the Thursday's sectional quarterfinal round.
