Traffic Stop Leads to Heroin Bust in Howell
A seat belt violation leads to the discovery of 480 decks of heroin by Howell police Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.
23-year-olds Brittany Gilbert of Brick Township and Tyshawn Morris of Wall Township were stopped shortly before 5 p.m. on Newtons Corner Road.
Authorities said the Gilbert, the driver, was hiding 10 decks of heroin in her clothing. A search of the vehicle by members of the Crime Suppression Unit, including K9 Jago, uncovered another 470 decks of the drug which was concealed within a false compartment inside the driver's side door panel, according to authorities. Officers located items of paraphernalia within a similar compartment on the passenger side door panel. Officers also seized about $1,200 in cash.
Police said Morris was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Lakewood.
Both of them were being held on $300,000 bail.
