A Toms River senior has lost more than $40,000 after falling victim to a wire scam. Police Chief Mike Mastronardy says the 82-year-old received a phone call from a woman who claimed his grandson was involved in an accident in Las Vegas and needed to wire money to a Los Angeles Western Union office.

After the man received a Christmas card from the grandson, he realized it was a scam. Police say anyone who's been a victim should call police at 732-349-0150.
