It's the Battle Of The Badges this Saturday, as a charity softball game pits members of the Toms River Police Department against Ocean County Corrections Officers.

The game is being hosted by the Toms River South Alumni Association to raise money for its newly formed Scholarship Fund. Association member Gus Kakavas describes the teams.

"We have the Toms River Police Department which, in my opinion, their strengths lie in the fact that they are extremely fast and they are extremely agile. However, they have worthy adversaries in the Ocean County Correction Officers, who are very strong, very big, unfortunately, they're lumbering and they are very slow," said Kakavas, which drew a chuckle from Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little on the phone during the Ocean County Breakfast Show.

However, Little said when Kakavas invited the police department to play, they jumped at the opportunity. "We were more than willing to do this. We enjoy getting out there with the public, letting them see us as friends and neighbors and not just the police driving around."

The game is being held this Saturday, August 16th at the High School South Ken Frank Stadium at 6:30 p.m. and is being announced by WOBM's very own Kevin Williams, Director of Shore Sports Network. Kakavas said tickets can be purchased at the game for $5.

Those interested in participating with the Alumni Association, become a major sponsor, or make a donation, can contact the Alumni Association Executive Committee at 732-612-3100 or 908-910-4247. They also have a Facebook page.

Kakavas said they're also planning to make a major announcement that they're going to hold for the game about someone who stepped forward and really kick-started the scholarship.
