A Toms River Police Officer is injured after a car rear-ended him on Route 37 East Thursday night. Officials say Officer William Hutton stopped in the center lane of the roadway near Brookside Drive and activated his lights when he noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the wrong direction on the west bound side.

Officials say a vehicle operated by Skylar Dean of Whiting was traveling behind the police car and was unable to stop in time, striking officer Hutton.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car he was pursuing was eventually stopped by another officer. 32-year-old Meghann Sabato of Toms River was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and several other motor vehicle violations.

Officer Hutton sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from Community Medical Center.
