Jackson Police had eyes open and patrol officers caught a few people driving while intoxicated over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

There was a myriad of arrests and drunk driving incidents that resulted in five people being charged with DWI between Sunday and Monday.

Police charged a 24-year old following a hit-and-run near 11:00 pm on Sunday night along Winterberry Boulevard where the driver had struck a parked car and then took off.

The 24-year old's 1998 Chevy was found by patrol officers over on Sandcastle Court with substantial front end damage.

The driver was found, arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, having open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle, improper display of plates and use of hand held/wireless phone while driving.

He was processed and released on summons pending a court appearance.

Then, on Monday, four arrests were made within three hours.

Police arrested a 31-year old man who had been driving a U.S. Postal Service truck and struck a utility pole, which snapped at the base, along Bowman Road around 3:21 pm.

The driver was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving.

He was processed and then released on summons pending a court appearance.

Police arrested a 56-year old man around 4:41 pm after the driver crashed his 2020 Chevy truck into a tree on Leesville Road near Fountain View Drive.

The 56 year old male driver was brought to an area hospital for treatment of injuries and was then charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to wear a seatbelt and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Police said that the man was released to the custody of the hospital with a pending court date.

It was around 5:07 pm that police arrested a 44-year old woman who was driving recklessly and acting erratically in the 2019 Lexus through the Jackson Plaza parking lot on North County Line Road.

The 44-year old was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, having open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle and refusal to submit to breath testing.

The woman was processed and then brought to the hospital for an evaluation.

Police then arrested a 59-year old man who crashed his 2001 Buick into a 2018 Toyota on Bennetts Mills Road around 5:47 pm.

The 59 year old was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.

He was then released on summons pending a court appearance.
