Bouncing around a bit heading into the weekend, just the fourth left before the unofficial end of the summer season:

With that in mind just who was the genius who made the ultimate decision to begin the beach replenishment project in Seaside Park now instead of waiting until after Labor Day?  Not only is beach access and use limited but I’m told the water in the area where work has begun is no longer a blue-green combination but more like grey.

How would you have liked to spend thousands of dollars on a home rental for a week only to find out that your beach is closed for work that should have at least been delayed by few weeks to take into consideration visitors and locals alike? The entire project along the coastline is a controversial one and although I believe there is merit at the end of the day Mother Nature will always prevail.

The Giants preseason opener was a rather lackluster affair with one notable exception: he 39-yard run by rookie running back Saquon Barkley on the first play from scrimmage.

There was actually one other highlight for those associated with Brick Memorial and Monmouth University and that was seeing Mike Basile in a #30 Giants uniform just a day after signing with the team.  Basile was one of three former Ocean County high school standouts to make his debut as an NFL player last night. The others were Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki (Southern Regional) and Bengals defensive back Tyrice Beverette (Lakewood).

By the way there were several NFL players last night who “protested” during the playing of the National Anthem by either taking a knee, raising a fist or staying in the locker room.  I guess this is not going away anytime soon and I wonder if POTUS will be sending out a tweet in response.

(Editor's note: Wonder no more)

The New Jersey state little league champions from Middletown will play Berlin, Maryland tonight at 7pm and if they win will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional championship game Saturday night in Bristol, Connecticut against a team of 12-year olds from Staten Island.

The winner of that game heads to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  This is the 20th anniversary of the “Beasts of the East” from Toms River winning it all.
